Healthy Back Programme

The Dru Yoga back care course is about habitual breaking patterns, postural, emotional and unconscious. This is done through playfulness.

We use minimal precise alignment direction. For people in pain it is most important to feel comfortable and safe in one’s body. We encourage each student to trust themselves and to trust their inner knowing. They need to trust that they know what is going to work for their body at that moment in time. Teaching alignment points takes people away from the inner awareness.

This course, designed by Dru Yoga UK, focuses on non-specific back pain and is based on current available evidence for back pain. The programme has been designed with senior yoga teachers, an osteopath, physiotherapist and general practitioners.

The course is a five week course and participants are encouraged to practice some of the movements for around 10 minutes a day. They can then follow with the next module or join an existing yoga class.

Evidence based

Two randomised control studies were conducted by Bangor University to evaluate the effectiveness of the Dru Back Care Programme. The results showed statistical evidence for reduced back pain in participants, resulting in a sizeable reduction in days taking off work for back pain.
