Asthma & respiratory conditions
Buteyko is well known for its success in helping people reduce their asthma symptoms. You will learn the theory of how over breathing contributes to asthma symptoms and how to change this. The breathing programme will teach you emergency methods, as well as how to change your unconscious breathing to lessen the conditions which contribute to asthma and rhinitis. This is also suitable for hay fever.
This is a 3-4 week course which will require you to practice breathing exercises for at least an hour a day to change one’s underlying breathing patterns that can contribute to rhinitis and respiratory conditions.
Daily practice will look something like this:
3 x 20 minutes breathing sessions.
or
6 x 10 minutes breathing sessions
15-30 minutes physical exercise with mouth closed.
This is dependent on your health – a programme will be tailor made.
Anxiety, stress and panic disorder
Anxiety, stress and panic disorder can be better managed with breathing re-education as breathing can influence the autonomic nervous system.
Learn how the breath influences our stress levels and how we can hack the brain through breathing to make us calmer and more relaxed. This can have far reaching effect with issues such as sleep, pain management, depression and concentration, amongst others.
This is a 4 week course which will require you to practice at least an hour a day of breathing exercises to change one’s underlying breathing patterns that can contribute toward stress, anxiety and panic disorder.

15 minutes before bed
15-30 minutes physical exercise with mouth closed.
Many of these exercises will also serve as emergency exercises for panic or anxiety.
Insomnia, Snoring and Sleep Apnea
Getting a good night’s sleep is vital for our mental and physical health. By changing your underlying breathing patterns you can lessen snoring, insomnia and Obstructive Sleep Apnea. How we breathe during the day influences our nocturnal breathing habits. Buteyko is about changing our unconscious breathing patterns by means of practicing gentle breathing techniques, as well as improving diaphragmatic breathing which helps to strengthen the upper respiratory organs.
By learning the Buteyko method you can get to sleep more easily, sleep better, stop mouth snoring, lessen nasal snoring and reduce the number of apnea events, as well as improve your general well being.
Daily practice will look something like this
5 min x 4-6 times daily (10 minutes before bed)
30 minutes of physical exercise a day.
Sessions for all conditions
We will meet for 45-60 min. The first 2 seasons will be within the first week and the rest once per week.
For those who need to take it slowly we will adjust the times and number of session.
Participants must submit a health questionnaire to guide the programme.
